Automobile Engineering is one of the most challenging careers with a wide scope. This branch deals with designing, developing, manufacturing, testing, repairing and servicing of automobiles such as cars, trucks etc., and the related sub systems. Automotive Industry has been growing in recent times due to the increasing demand for vehicles and the job prospects have increased rapidly.

        The Automobile engineering department of SSM Polytechnic College was established in the year 1984 with an initial intake of 30 students. The intake was progressively increased in subsequent years and the present intake is 60. The department is equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops which is continuously updated in line with the modifications in the curriculum and developments in technology. The department also conducts number of workshops, expert lectures, activity-based assignments, innovative projects, and industry-oriented programs to enhance the knowledge and to get awareness among the students with the latest technologies. Employability skills of students are enhanced through various value-added programs.

        S. Naina Mohammed Basil took the charge as the Head of Department until 2019. We have an eminent alumni and most of them are working in the key posts in private, state and central government services and public sectors. Most of them are still in contact with the department.
